Chapter One :Chapter 1

Upon entering, all Catherine could see was white.

White flowers were hung in a ring, and in the center, the four bold characters "Her Memory Lives On" made her heart skip a beat.

Was this her post-mortem memorial hall?

"Oh, you jinx! We married you into our family to bring joy and prosperity, but look what you did instead. You’ve just been married in and already you've brought the death of my uncle!"

Only then did she realize a man was prostrated on her.

Who was this man? She was killed in the Medical Hall explosion, wasn't she?

Why then did she appear in this bizarre memorial hall?

Cleopatra scrutinized the man before her. The man was in crude clothes, his eyes sneaky and shifty. Seeing Cleopatra looking at him, he threw a slap at her. But she dodged quickly.

"Dared to avoid? Lass, you won't live long after eating the poison rat pill. Let this old fellow take your virginity in your last moments. It's not a wasted life for you. My cousin is disabled, I guess you had to spend your wedding night alone!"

The information was a bit overwhelming, and Cleopatra didn't have time to analyze it all. She was about to be violated by this man, so she tightly clutched the scissors she found in the white cloth basket, and plunged them into the man’s eyes.

Steady, accurate, and ruthless; the first poke blinded one of his eyes, and the second one crippled his manhood!

The man howled a few times in pain, then fainted.

Not wanting to be caught as a criminal immediately, Cleopatra quickly arranged the unconscious man in a kneeling posture, placed the bloodied scissors in his hand, and made him grip it.

The crime scene was dealt with, but now it was time to deal with herself.

She glanced down at herself, somewhat stunned.

How did she not remember having such a good figure?

But there was no time for further contemplation. She undressed from the torn and blood-stained clothes and was about to put on a white dress.

There was a white dress readily available in the mourning hall, it seemed tailor-made for her, but putting it on was a bit troublesome.

Before she finished dressing, the door was abruptly opened.

In haste, Cleopatra hastily wrapped herself in the white cloth from the basket, shouting, "Pervert, get out!"

Who knew the man, pushing a wheelchair with both hands, not only didn't leave, but even got closer to her.

It was then that she noticed him, less than a foot away from her. His clear eyebrows and handsome appearance, wearing gold-rimmed black glasses and a neatly arranged Calvin Klein suit, his slender hands pushing the wheelchair, appeared increasingly suave.

For a moment, Cleopatra was transfixed by his handsome appearance.

The man secured the wheelchair, buttoned her up, and tidied up her clothes. She finally snapped back to her senses and brushed his hands away.

"What do you think you're doing? Don't think that because you're good-looking you can do whatever you want! You dare to bully me, see what happened to him?"

Cleopatra pointed to the sleazy man still unconscious on the side.

"Was that your doing?" The man's expression turned complex, he pushed his glasses up and examined his cousin who was lying on the floor.

When she woke up in the morning, she could not find her new husband. As it turned out, he was abducted and tied up in the hall.

"It's... It's not like that, he went crazy and ended up like this by himself," Cleopatra wrung the corner of her clothes.

Don't ask, he is handsome, and his voice is quite nice. She thought to herself.

"Oh," the man resumed his emotionless expression, "I'm glad you're okay."

Having said that, he took Cleopatra's hand.

She swiftly pulled away, "Didn't you hear what I said? Don't pull and tug at me!"

"My wife, why can't I hold your hand?" The man's low and magnetic voice sounded.

She stared at him in disbelief, "What did you say?"

"What, did you forget your status after only a few days of marriage? My dear wife, let's go back to our room," he suggestively said.

Cleopatra's vision blurred, almost fainting, "I'm your wife?"

The constant emergence of memories almost overwhelmed her. She squatted down, clutching her severely aching head.

Her physical body was killed in an explosion, her soul had transmigrated, into the body of a tragic woman who shared her name and surname.

Cleopatra, a woman who was forced to marry Gavin Leroy, the handicapped man in her village, all in order to bring joy to her critically ill father. However, on the third day of her being wedded, her father breathed his last breath.

The Rover family was unwilling to take her back, for they didn't want to refund the dowry given by the Leroy family. The Leroy family, on the other hand, was afraid that she might bring misfortune upon them. Together, they decided for her to be buried with her deceased father-in-law.

To avoid Gavin Leroy causing trouble, they hid the entire thing from him.

Gavin Leroy's cousin, trodden by lust, took the initiative to take charge of the matter. He prepared funeral clothes, fed her poison, and was ready to take her virtue before her last breath.

The original host died after taking the poison, and the soul of Cleopatra occupied her body.

If this had taken place in the modern world, she could have escaped the miserable Leroy family. But all these happened in the 70s, a time when even black and white TVs were considered luxurious!

Here, she could not go anywhere, and even surviving was dependent on the Leroy family providing food.

As a woman, stepping outdoors would attract criticism, let alone a woman who was believed to kill people by bringing joy!

Truly, her story began with death.

Cleopatra looked up at her cheap husband, braced her heart, and decided that the only thing she could do now was to serve him well and live in his family.

She slowly got up, pushed his wheelchair, and walked out of the memorial hall.

Just as she returned to his room, she immediately noticed a calendar on the iron table.

April 8, 1977.

Good grief, wasn't that the Festival three days ago?

Marrying a wife on the Festival, you couldn't blame her for failing to dispel the filth by bringing joy.

Not to mention whether it was superstition, just looking at the date, the Leroy family really knew how to pick.

"Umm... About today's matter, it was him who had malicious intentions, I was merely defending myself, you understand, right?" Cleopatra looked at the man before her, with uncontrollable tremors.

She had ruined his cousin, besides speaking disrespectfully to him, he wouldn't hold a grudge, right?

"He's the one who suddenly went mad and did that to himself, right?" Gavin Leroy’s sword-like brows were slightly raised, his refined eyes carried a mischievous smile.

The implication was that it was unrelated to Cleopatra, and he could testify.

Cleopatra breathed a sigh of relief, "Have you eaten yet? If not, do you need me to feed you? I see that you might be having some difficulties."

"My leg's the one that's injured," Gavin said, teasingly.

Cleopatra's face was full of disbelief.

She indeed wasn't very good at making conversation. Previously, when she was at the Medical Hall, she was a famed doctor, everyone admired her, she didn't need the useless thing called emotional quotient

.

"Oh, right, should I help you check your leg then?" She changed the subject, trying to make the conversation seem less abrupt.

From the original owner's memory, Gavin's leg was injured during an earthquake relief, and since then he had retired and stayed at home like a useless person.

Because he was commended for earthquake relief, which led to everyone in the nearby villages knowing about his disability, no one was willing to marry him.

The Leroy family didn't intend to find him a wife either, but the old man was seriously ill, and the village's witch persuaded the Leroy family to try the old method of transferring happiness by marriage.

As a result, old man Leroy still died.

Indeed, feudal superstition should not be trusted.

Gavin Leroy gently lifted the thin blanket covering his leg, with a playful smile at the corner of his mouth, “Nurse Cleopatra wants to experiment on me again?”
